Burning a candle is a simple pleasure that can bring warmth and ambiance to any room and while it may seem like a simple task, burning your candle properly ensures brighter flames, longer burn times and easier re-lights. Because we are dedicated to creating high-quality, sustainable candles, we are also invested in your safe use and enjoyment of them.
1. Trim the Wick – Every Time You Light
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick. Every. Single. Time. We recommend a wick trimmer, scissors or even nail clippers. Simply trim the wick between 1/8 and 1/4 inches long. This will keep the flame at a safe size, give your candle a brighter and more stable flame when lit.
2. Allow Your Candle to Create a Proper Melt Pool
Soy wax candles have a “memory”. Each time a candle burns, the wax remembers where it has melted and for each burn after, they will melt in the same pattern. Let your candle burn until the first layer of wax has melted all of the way across – for our candles, they will burn an approximate 1 inch melt pool every hour.
Blowing the candle flame out beforehand can lead to “tunneling” and making it harder to trim and light the next time. And all of the unmelted wax stuck to the sides of the container? This means you’re losing a significant amount of fragrance and hours of burn time that you paid for but won’t be able to enjoy.
3. Burn Safely and Away from Dangers
Make sure you’re burning safely. Never leave a candle unattended, around children, pets or, next to flammable objects. Ensure your candle is on a sturdy, heat resistant surface and away from windows, air ducts, and appliances that may cause a draft.
4. Know When to Say Goodbye
We know it’s hard to say goodbye to your favorite candle. When there is ½ inch of wax left in the bottom of the container, it’s time to say your goodbyes. Burning past that point increases the risk of the container becoming too hot and burning the surface its on.
5. Reuse and Repurpose
When your candle has reached the end of its burnable life , our candle containers are designed to be reused and repurposed. Simply let your candle cool, pop it in the freezer for a few hours, remove the hardened wax and turn your candle container into a planter, desk accessory or bathroom organizer.
